CHS 211 Class Web Site

Welcome to the 211 Class website.

We hope to make this a place for all things 211.

I last wrote something for the web site 15 years ago for our 50th reunion. We have had two reunions since then, and a great many dinners where many of us meet in Philly to talk about CHS and the many things that have occurred since we left the hallowed halls.

Just a few changes.

Girls now account for more than 50% of the school. There is a new computer center, new gym and many other changes. In the works is the construction of a Performing Art Center (byebye North Lawn), reconfiguration of the back of the campus, new science and engineering facilities. (Joseph Field of the 192 donated $10 million, and the School District has kicked in $8.1 million)

The president of the school, Tim McKenna, told me that other schools recruit athletes- Central recruits scholars. One of the many changes in the Phila. high school scene points out that Central is still the best high school in the city ‑ kids can choose their high school and not be assigned to their neighbor school. They have to apply for entrance‑‑‑ ‑ each year Central turns away over 2000 or more applicants to achieve a freshman class of approximately 600. According to McKenna, it is the most diverse high school population in the country, and still academically No. 1.

Over the years we have been able to find and contact almost all of our remaining classmates. We cannot find 6 or 7 members. Some members are not interested in keeping in touch but many do.

We here in Philadelphia want to update our information on you. In addition to the website (chs211.reunionwatch.com), a Facebook page in the ‑Groups‑ section has been established. ‑CHS211" .

Please join us and let us know where you are and what you are doing.

It has been 60 years since we walked the South Lawn. We have gone on to achieve greatness in many fields, medicine, law, education, business, government service, and many others. We are part of a great group of people with a unique background and education at CHS. We should celebrate and keep the school and our classmates in mind. It is always great to communicate with the 211.
